The green-lipped mussel gets its name from the pale green edge along the outside of the shell. The mussel is found exclusively in the New Zealand waters of Marlborough Sounds, where the shellfish can flourish optimally in pristine nature. The green-lipped mollusc naturally contains a high concentration of essential fatty acids and glycosamine glycans. Besides green-lipped mussel, the patented Ovomet® also plays a starring role in this formula. This eggshell membrane naturally contains collagen, hyaluronic acid glucosamine, chondroitin, keratin, lyzozyme and more than 500 proteins.
High concentration of active ingredients in green-lipped mussel extract
When green-lipped mussel is processed into powder, the nutrient value remains the same. In effect, you have a crushed mussel; healthy in itself, but we cannot attach any major health benefits to this. The amount of active ingredients is simply not high enough. Filtering the precious nutrients out of the mollusc soon after capture produces an extract, which has a concentration of active ingredients many times higher. Moreover, processing from mussel to powder and from powder to extract takes place within a very short time frame. Due to this rapid extraction process, the active nutrients remain better intact. Unique eggshell membrane Ovomet®
Since 2017, Vitakruid has collaborated with Spanish research firm Eggnovo, producer of the patented eggshell membrane Ovomet®. When peeling an egg, we throw away the eggshell, but the membrane of the eggshell is a rich source of nutrients. Eggnovo therefore decided to use precisely this part of the eggshell for Ovomet®. And in this area, they can rightly call themselves innovative. Indeed, the company has a unique method for separating the internal membrane of the egg shell. During this secure production process, they process the fragile membrane directly into powder, without the intervention of heating. As a result, all nutrients remain intact. Moreover, due to the sustainable development process, Ovomet® is produced environmentally friendly and completely non-chemical!
Ovomet® is rich in collagen and hyaluronic acid
In the egg, the membrane acts as a natural protective layer for the egg white. The fragile membrane consists of a unique composition of high concentrations of collagen types I, V and X (3-38%), hyaluronic acid (4%), glucosamine (2%), chondroitin sulphate (2%) and more than 500 key enzymes.
